🇮🇪 Historical Background 🇫🇷

The Irish Legion was established on August 31st, 1803, in Morlaix, France, under the command of French army Adjutant-General Bernard MacSheehy. The purpose of the Legion was to align the Irish hearts to the French cause in the imminent invasion of Ireland. At first, the Legion consisted of a single battalion but as its numbers grew, it was reformed into a regiment. In August 1811, the Legion was renamed to 3ème Régiment Étranger d’Infanterie (3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment), but throughout the unit's history it was always referred to as the “Irish Regiment” or the “Irish Legion”.

The Legion was made up of members of the Society of United Irishmen who had fled to France in 1797. It also included Irishmen who took part in the Rebellion of 1798, and later escaped or were exiled after the Treaty of Amiens. The Legion also consisted of a small number of German, Polish and Dutch soldiers.

Found on the 4th December 2022, The 3ème Régiment Étranger d’Infanterie - "La Légion Irlandaise" is a European, line infantry regiment. We aim to gather a competitive group of players, who enjoy honing their skills and putting them to the test against other such regiments in linebattles, regimental 1v1s or groupfighting matches. We believe in creating a place where all members feel welcome and apart of something special, we aim and want to be a part of the competitive scene in holdfast.
